A simple skirt without a pattern with your own hands - we sew quickly, in just half an hour. The skirt can be made both longer and shorter.

This skirt is sewn without a pattern simply and quickly. For her, a knitted fabric of medium thickness and density is suitable. The skirt can be made longer or shorter - above the knee, to the middle of the knee or slightly lower. If you will use a sewing machine for sewing, take a special knitting needle and read our tips on how to sew knitwear on a sewing machine.

Step 1

Measure your hips at the most prominent points. Subtract 5-8 cm from the obtained value (depending on the elasticity of your knitwear and how tightly fitting you want your skirt to be made). Divide the resulting value by 2.

For example: hips - 98 cm, 98 - 8 = 90 cm, 90/2 = 45 cm.

Also measure the length of the skirt from the waistline. To the obtained value add 18 cm.

For example: we need a 55 cm long skirt. 55 + 18 = 73 cm.

Step 2

Fold the canvas in half (the fold should pass exactly along the shared thread, how to determine its direction, read here).

Measure the first value obtained from the bend (in our example - 45 cm) and cut it across the entire width (to be sure, you can draw a small line first).

Step 3

Using the fractional measure the second value, the length of the skirt (in our example - 73 cm), also cut.

Step 4

One of the short sides of our rectangle is defined as the waistline. Set aside 2.5 cm on each side of the waist line (if your waist / hip difference is more significant, you need to put aside more). Down on both long sides of the waistline, set aside 18 cm.

Connect the dots and cut off the resulting triangles.

If you want to narrow the skirt down, fold the parts in half so that the bottom line coincides with the waist line and cut the same triangles on the sides.

Step 5

Make side seams (zigzag seam is used here).

Step 6

Turn the skirt out. From the inside, attach elastic braid to the upper edge and sew it, departing from the edge 1–2 mm and slightly stretching the braid (you can use the zigzag seam). Sew the tape with an overlap of 1-1.5 cm and cut it.

Fasten the edges of the braid over each other with a zigzag seam.

Wrap the upper edge of the skirt with the braid sewn in and lay another seam, departing 1-2 mm from the edge of the undercoat.

Step 7

Tighten the lower edge inwards by 1.5 cm and iron. Fold in again 2.5 cm inward and iron.

Make a seam while hemming a skirt (you can use a zigzag). Done!
