The magic of realism in a modern interpretation: everyone who is fond of modern painting is definitely familiar with the work of Gregory Emvey.

Gregory Emvi - also Grigory Maslennikov, great-grandson of the artist Grigory Maslennikov. Member of the International Foundation for the Arts, lives and works in London and Moscow. Someone will recall his work at the Venice Biennale 2014, someone at the Golden Age of the Russian Avant-Garde exhibition in the Moscow Manege or at the Manifesto 10 exhibition in St. Petersburg.

The representative of the artists of the new wave, the creator of a unique design, Gregory Emvey brings art to the field of fashion as well. A large-scale exhibition of the artist’s works is planned for 2015, and so far, in October 2014, two orientation events have been held: closed preview (October 13th) and party Champagne tea party (October 16th).

Both events were organized in the chic mansion of Cadogan Square and attracted many celebrities and collectors. This is an unconventional format for the opening of the exhibition, however, like the painting itself by Gregory Emvey.

At the pre-show, an experimental collection of multimedia paintings created by applying oil paints to medical x-rays was announced. However, a surprise awaited the guests - the organizers of the preliminary show and the daring artist managed to surprise everyone - after all, the paintings themselves were not presented at the evening.Instead, in the twilight of a chic hall with high ceilings, in the flickering light of candles, guests were shown a conceptual video featuring the artist himself. In the video, Gregory, not afraid to appear before the audience in an extremely vulnerable way, fights with the dark side of her personality, embodied by the project manager and agent Emvi Olga Timofeeva. At the end of the video, Gregory’s works were broadcast on screen one by one, and the artist himself talked about the concept of each work and what served as the impetus for its creation.

A special impression on the audience was made by the painting "Virgin Mary", in which X-ray images of the head and hands emerge from under the traditional clothing.

Thus, abandoning the traditional format of the opening of the exhibition, the organizers created an amazing atmosphere of secrecy and unity, and the guests learned about each work from the mouth of their creator and asked all the questions directly to the artist himself.

The paintings themselves were presented at the Champagne Tea Party. Many celebrities were noticed here, in particular, the Russian designer Vika Gazinskaya, the owner of the culinary school, the blogger and publisher Veronika Belotserkovskaya, the Russian actress, model, singer and photographer Ilona Stolie, the editor-in-chief of the Russian version of Harper's Bazaar magazine, Dasha Veledeeva, the London designers Natalia Kaut and a lot others.

Gregory Amy explains her unusual approach to creating paintings by her desire to reveal the deepest layers of human nature, to look into the face of a human being hidden behind its material embodiment.X-rays in this context are a tool with which Gregory seems to repel the contrary. Turning to the hardest that is in a person - to his bones, the artist seeks to expose the most ephemeral - the soul. The images captured in Emvie’s paintings, mostly female, dark, blurry, are extracted from the depths of the artist’s subconscious and strive to interact with the viewer's subconscious.
