Neatly made seams, even bending indicate the craftsmanship of the needlewoman, the attentive attitude to details, to sewing and the quality of the product as a whole.
Some sewing operations sometimes require more ingenuity and small tricks using improvised materials.
It is not so easy to make a narrow hem or a narrow French seam. The main problem is how to start the line so that the machine does not chew or spoil the fabric.
The fact is that narrow allowances barely fall under the right side of the foot. As a result, the presser foot cannot provide a snug fit during sewing. And when the needle is lowered into the fabric to make the first stitch, then most often the corner of the fabric goes with the needle into the hole in the needle plate.
In the master class, I will show how to avoid this and complete a line with a narrow hem or a narrow French seam with a small piece of paper.
Stickers are best suited for this purpose - white sheets of mini-format for notes.
Narrow french seam
Step 1
Fold the details with the wrong sides facing each other.
Sweep.
Get off.

Step 2
Iron the seams.
Step 3
Cut allowances to 2-3 mm.
Step 4
Turn out the details and sweep them already from the wrong side along the edge of the seam.
Iron.
Step 5
Take the sticker (mini-size sheet for notes) and place it under the foot as shown in the photo.
Then place the fabric under the foot over the paper.
Step 6
Lower the foot.
Lower the needle into the paper. In this case, a small distance should remain between the needle and the fabric, about 3-4 stitches.
Step 7
Begin stitching on paper, going to fabric with paper and only then to fabric.
Next, lay the line confidently, at the usual speed.
Step 8
Carefully remove the paper first, then the binder.
Iron the seam, and then iron one seam.

Step 7
Iron allowances.
In this way, you can make a French seam and hem 3-5 mm wide.
Place the sticker (mini-sheet for notes) under the foot on the side that you think will be more convenient.
